Functional Office Furniture
It's a simple fact of life - for an office to run efficiently, office furniture has to be functional.
The filing cabinets have to be big enough to file things; the desks large enough to accommodate activity and the office chairs properly designed to avoid carpal tunnel and other such unnecessary side effects.
Functionality, however, doesn't not have to equate to a ho hum office atmosphere. There are ways to combine function, professionalism and fun
into an office furniture scheme. All this takes is a little advanced planning and some smart
shopping.
The first place to start when choosing office furniture is to figure out what's actually needed. An office with only one employee might look
silly with a cubicle whereas a huge waiting room that offers only one chair would look beyond Spartan.
Take stock in what you need, how you need it to perform and what features are important. For example, what kind of desks suit your needs? Do
you need simple models with only a drawer or two, or will you and your employees require some built-in filing space along with room for a
computer, monitor and printer, too?
Once you create a list of your needs, start thinking about what kind of appearance you'd like your office to have. If you're going with
bright, fun colors to exude an impression of vibrancy and life, choose accordingly. Your desks, cabinets and chairs don't have to conform to a
cookie-cutter office setting.
Depending on the statement you're trying to make, your furniture, once the function requirement is met, can be as whimsical as your business will
allow.
For professionals who feel it necessary to conform to a more "traditional" office set up, selections don't have to be totally boring, either.
Look for accent pieces that will bring your personality into your office. It's ok even for a judge, lawyer, doctor or architect to show a little
bit of their "fun side" in their office setting.
After all, you spend 40 plus hours in your office a week, shouldn't it be a comfortable place for you and your employees?
